Laos Launches Agroecology Transitions Guidelines Following ASEAN Adoption
Vientiane, Laos – The Lao-facilitated Initiative on Agroecology (LICA), led by the Lao government, alongside representatives from ASEAN countries and valuable and long-standing partners, including AFD, CIRAD and GRET, officially launched the ASEAN Policy Guidelines on Agroecological Transitions on March 17, 2025.
Endorsed at the 45th ASEAN Agriculture and Forestry Senior Officials Meeting (SOM-AMAF) in Malaysia and adopted during the 46th ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF) Meeting in October 2024, these guidelines mark a major step in ASEAN’s commitment to sustainable, resilient, and equitable food systems.
Led by the Lao PDR Department of Agricultural Land Management (DALaM), under the Lao Initiative on Agroecology for ASEAN (LICA), these guidelines were prepared by the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in close collaboration with the ASEAN Secretariat through the Food, Agriculture and Forestry Division. This effort, which built on a comprehensive multistakeholder process, was supported by the AgenceFrançaise de Développement (AFD), under the Agroecology and Safe Food System Transitions (ASSET) project led by GRET and CIRAD and co-funded by the European Union and the Fonds Français pour l’Environnement Mondial (FFEM)… Check out the full news HERE
