Empowering Lao CSOs and ALiSEA’s member: Facebook Page Management Exchange

On July 26, 2024, the Agroecology Alliance Learning in South East Asia (ALiSEA) hosted a Facebook Page Management Exchange event in Laos. Bringing together 21 participants, including 11 women, from 11 ALiSEA member organizations, the workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of Laotian civil society organizations (CSOs) to effectively leverage Facebook.

Given Facebook’s dominance as a platform for information sharing and community building in Laos, the event focused on equipping participants with practical skills and knowledge for creating and managing effective Facebook pages. Through hands-on sessions led by experts from GRET, the Participatory Development Knowledge Agency (PAKA), and the Lao Social Organization Coordination Office (LCCO), participants learned about page setup, optimization, content creation, and best practices.

A key takeaway from the event was the realization of Facebook’s immense potential for reaching target audiences and building communities. Participants discovered the platform’s limitations, such as organic reach, and explored strategies to overcome these challenges. The session also highlighted the importance of creating engaging content that resonates with the audience.

Beyond skill-building, the exchange fostered valuable peer-to-peer learning and collaboration among CSOs. Participants shared their experiences, challenges, and questions, creating a supportive environment for knowledge exchange. The event concluded with participants identifying areas for further training, including Facebook advertising, content design, photo and video production, and data management using KOBOtoolbox.

Mr. Daengnoy from LCCO

As Mr. Daengnoy from LCCO aptly stated, “We would like to organize this kind of exchange event. Today is a very good opportunity and I thank ALiSEA for making this event happen and it will be the starting point for creating a connection of communication work in Laos.” This event marks a significant step in empowering Lao CSOs to leverage Facebook effectively for their missions.
