PGS Hoi An

PGS Hoi An was established in 2014 as part of the first organic vegetable production project in Hoi An—the first organic production model in Central Vietnam to follow PGS standards. The initiative started with 17 members, including representatives from the government, NGOs, farmers, businesses, and consumers. Initially managed by the Hoi An Economic Department, it is now overseen by the Hoi An Agricultural Technical Center in accordance with Vietnam’s PGS standards.

Since its inception, PGS Hoi An has implemented 10 organic agriculture projects, funded by state budgets, NGOs, and community contributions. These projects have covered more than 6 hectares with a total investment of nearly 7 billion VND from state and non-governmental sources. However, the currently PGS-certified area is limited to 1.2 hectares with 11 participating farmers.

Scope and Goals of PGS Hoi An

PGS Hoi An focuses on implementing and training farmers in organic agriculture development, aiming to:

  • Certify organic products in Hoi An according to PGS Hoi An standards.
  • Increase farmers’ incomes through organic production.
  • Promote environmental protection and support the growth of organic agriculture.
  • Develop sustainable agricultural models linked to tourism and community development.
  • Create educational and experiential opportunities for students and tourists visiting Hoi An.
