ALiSEA NETWORK Thematic Green Talk – the series EP.03: The results from the 3rd thematic green talk in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam

Objectives:

  1. To strengthen knowledge and experience sharing on agroecology according to topics of interest raised by ALiSEA members;
  2. To encourage informal exchanges and foster learning among ALiSEA members; and
  3. To increase the visibility of agroecological initiatives. ALiSEA network has been held on the ALiSEA Network – thematic green talk – the series in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

The 3rd thematic meeting in Cambodia

3rd ALiSEA Network thematic session in Cambodia has been held on 17 March 2022, with the topic on “Share Experience on Challenges of Flood plains ‘irrigated perimeter“. There were about 32 participants from research center, NGOs, International NGOs, University lecturers, young farmers…. participating in the event. With the 3 speakers to share their experiences as:

  1. Mr. Phoeurk Raksmey: Project Manager of Center of Excellence on Agricultural Economic and Rural Development, presented on a topic of “Water management in Takeo province”
  2. Mrs Prémila Masse: Program manager Sustainable Food and agriculture system, presented on a topic of “Agroecology transition limits in Battambang province
  3. Mr. MIN Sophoan: Country Coordinator, AVSF Cambodia, presented on a topic of Steung Chinit irrigation Scheme in Kampong Thom province

The 3rd thematic meeting in Laos

3rd ALiSEA Network thematic session in Laos has been held on 15 August 2022, with the topic on “Applying Climate Smart Agriculture Adapting to Climate Change”.

There were more than 39 participants, with 20 participating via Zoom and 19 watching live on Facebook live stream. With the 5 speakers to share their experiences as:

  1. Sayvisene Boulom, Deputy head of Rural Economics and Food Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, NUoL. National GAP-CSA expert. Presented on a topic of Introduction of Climate Smart Agriculture, adaptation and mitigation to climate change
  2. Bouathong Philavong, Deputy head of technical extension and agricultural mechanization division, DAEC. Presented on a topic of GAP rice production techniques and application of rice resilient varieties adapted to climate change
  3. Hong Sithivong​, Deputy head of agricultural information, extension and market linkage, DAEC. Presented on a topic of Soil disinfection and application of vegetable resilient varieties to climate change
  4. Thongkhoun Sisaphaithong, PhD, Head of Horticulture Research Section. Presented on a topic of Greenhouse and new vegetable climate resilient varieties to pest, disease and climate change (1)
  5. Phatana Sengounkeo, Researcher of HRC, Greenhouse construction and vegetable production. Presented on a topic of Greenhouse and new vegetable climate resilient varieties to pest, disease and climate change (2)

The 3rd thematic meeting in Vietnam

3rd ALiSEA Network thematic session in Vietnam has been held on 5th August 2022, with the topic on “Share Experience on Integrated farming system”.There were about 15 participants from research center, NGOs, International NGOs, University lecturers, young farmers…. participating in the event. With the 3 speakers to share their experiences as:

  • Dr. Pham Van Hoi is a lecturer on agroecology at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA). He completed his MSc on Science in Social Development at Ateneo de Manila, the Philippines in 2001 and PhD on Environmental Sociology at Wageningen University, the Netherlands in 2010. He is presently the director of the Center for Agricultural research and Ecological studies (within VNUA) and has been co-PI and researcher in different international projects on sustainable agriculture and rural sociology. Since 2017 he started to investigate on small-scale circular farming systems such as Aquaponics, Chickenponics and Kitchenponics. These systems have been filmed by VTV1, Nhandan TV, and commercialized in Hanoi and Bac Giang province. He presented on a topic of Kitchenponics: the circular farming system for urban food/greening and living waste treatment
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Thai is a lecturer on Apiculture at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA). He completed his MSc on Honeybee biology in Biological Faculty of Utrecht University, the Netherlands in 2001 and PhD on Entomology at Apiculture at Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) in 2008. He is presently the director of the Research Center for Tropical Bees and Beekeeping (within VNUA). He is member of IUCN Since 1994 – 2008, he cared out the Vietnam bee conservation project. He presented on a topic of The roles of bees in circular farming systems
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Hung had a teacher at the Vietnam National University of Agriculture (VNUA) since 1979 at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Soil Management. 1994-1999 as a PhD student at Szczecin Agricultural Academy Poland. 2000-2010 he worked at the Department of Science, Technology and Environment, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. 2015 he worked The Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment and Vietnam Organic Agricultural Research and Development Center (CRDOA), under Vietnam Organic Agriculture Association (VOAA). He presented on a topic of Some encouraging policies for organic agriculture development in Vietnam
