Regional Communication Officer – GRET


GRET is an international solidarity organisation created in 1976. It aims to reconcile environmental imperatives and satisfaction of basic needs and social rights. Its teams implement the most appropriate solutions and partnerships locally to improve populations’ living conditions and conserve our planet.

GRET works in twenty-eight countries on three continents, focusing on the needs of the most vulnerable people. Its projects are based on long-term, sustainable action in its countries of intervention. They are conducted in co-construction with communities, governments, civil society, research, and a vast network of partners. By sharing its experience and knowledge, and through its advocacy actions, GRET contributes to changing public policies and national and international development practices.

GRET has been active in Southeast Asia for more than 30 years and has offices in Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar. Its activities focus mainly on essential services (water, sanitation and waste management), natural resource management, agroecology and social protection.

In order to develop its presence and activities in this region, GRET is seeking to recruit a Southeast Asia regional communication officer.


The Regional Communication Officer designs and implements GRET’s communication strategy in Southeast Asia, under the supervision of GRET’s Southeast Asia regional representative, and with technical support from the communication and private resources department at headquarters in France. He/she will work transversally with all the project managers located in the region and in particular with the key communication staff in each country (Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam).

More specifically, he or she will be in charge of the following missions:


  • Contribute to the development and updating of the regional communication
    strategy in Southeast Asia in conjunction with the representatives and their teams.
  • Manage the implementation of the regional communication plan.
  • Provide support to project leaders in their strategic thinking and in the implementation of communication-related activities within their projects.
  • Identify projects to be promoted locally and internationally; facilitate and coordinate feedback from project leaders.
  • Maintain a regular link between the communication department at headquarters and GRET’s representations in Southeast Asia, in order to ensure smooth flow of information internally.
  • Liaise and network with communication focal points of organisations who are working in the region (including partners and donors)
  • Constantly monitor the main news and events organized in the region, anticipate possible risks (reputational, in particular).

Project support

  • Support project teams to implement communication activities, especially for regional projects and projects with significant communication issues.
  • Identify projects to be highlighted locally, nationally or globally.

Media production

  • Update national GRET’s institutional communication tools and create GRET’s regional institutional communication tools.
  • Ensure compliance with GRET’s visual identity guidelines.
  • Design, edit and lay out information and communication materials (brochures, posters, banners, computer graphics, kakemonos, project factsheets, etc.).
  • Support project teams to conduct and complete their audiovisual and photographic projects.
  • Create and maintain a local and regional network of specialized service providers (graphic designers, video producers, photographers, printers, etc.).
  • Create and supply input into image banks.
  • Support the communication department to produce GRET’s annual report.

Digital communication

  • Write articles for GRET’s website and monthly newsletter.
  • Moderate the Facebook pages of GRET countries, with the support of key communication staff in the region.
  • Produce and distribute simple videos (interviews with team members, partners, short videos to promote certain projects, etc.).


  • Support project teams in the design and management of communication activities around events (project launches, closing workshops, etc.).
  • Act as a source of proposals and provide advice to representations for the organisation of events to promote GRET’s actions.

Media Relations

  • Write and distribute press releases.
  • Handle media requests for information.
  • Develop partnerships with journalists specialising in GRET’s areas of activity.
  • Enrich and update the “media” database.
  • Conduct press reviews.


  • Strengthen GRET staff’s communication skills by organising training sessions (e.g. on photography, event organisation, use of social networks, writing web articles and press releases, video editing).
  • Set up reporting tools (press reviews, monthly summaries on the evolution of country Facebook pages…).
  • Local promotion of GRET publications.
  • Facilitation of internal communication at the regional level.

Profile required

  • University degree in a relevant field (communication, journalism, international relations).
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar position in an NGO or international organisation.
  • Excellent skills in English and in one or several national languages (Khmer, Lao, Burmese, Vietnamese).
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and the Adobe Creative Cloud suite (including Photoshop and InDesign).
  • Photography and audiovisual editing skills. Previous experience as a trainer appreciated, especially in these two areas.
  • In-depth knowledge of the world of media and social networks in Asia.
  • Versatility, rigour and initiative.
  • Adaptability to different contexts and flexibility.

Conditions, salary, duration

Position based in one of GRET’s offices in the region (Vietnam, Laos or Cambodia) with frequent travel in the sub-region.

Local law contract for one year, renewable.

Salary will be in accordance with GRET’s policy according to qualifications and experience.
