International Development Enterprises (iDE) Cambodia
International Development Enterprises (iDE) is a global non-profit organization dedicated to creating sustainable social and economic benefits for the rural poor by building profitable enterprises and value chains. With a presence in 12 countries and home offices in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, iDE empowers entrepreneurs to increase their income and improve their quality of life.
In Cambodia, iDE has been fostering prosperity since 1994 by developing value chains and business models in agriculture and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH). These initiatives promote beneficial, affordable products and services that are fundamental to enhancing rural livelihoods, climate resilience, nutrition, and gender equality.
Agriculture Initiatives:
-
Climate Smart Commercial Horticulture Cambodia (CSmart): iDE played a pivotal role in establishing this program, which focuses on building resilient agricultural value chains.
-
Cambodia Agribusiness Development Facility (CADF): For over 12 years, supported by the New Zealand Aid Programme, CADF has been instrumental in increasing profits for small-scale commercial farmers.
WASH Initiatives:
-
Sanitation Market Scale-Up (SMSU): Completed in September 2023, SMSU facilitated the installation of over 410,000 latrines across seven provinces, providing improved sanitation access to one in five rural Cambodian households.
-
Climate-Resilient Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Scale-Up Program (CR-WASH-SUP): In partnership with the Water for Women Fund, this program aims to reach approximately 19,906 people in rural Siem Reap province, strengthening inclusive WASH markets and systems.
Empowering Women Entrepreneurs:
In January 2024, iDE Cambodia integrated SHE Investments, enhancing support for women entrepreneurs through tailored incubator and accelerator programs. This partnership addresses challenges such as access to finance and technology, driving community prosperity.
