World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF)
The Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) is a global research organization dedicated to advancing sustainable forest management, agroforestry, and landscape restoration. It was formed through the merger of CIFOR (Center for International Forestry Research) and ICRAF (World Agroforestry), combining their expertise to address environmental challenges and support rural livelihoods worldwide.
Objective
CIFOR-ICRAF aims to improve the well-being of people while protecting and restoring forests and landscapes. The organization focuses on generating research-based solutions to promote sustainable land use, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience.

CIFOR-ICRAF’s Focus in Vietnam
In Vietnam, CIFOR-ICRAF works on promoting sustainable land use, forest restoration, and climate-smart agroforestry practices in collaboration with government agencies, research institutions, and local communities. The key focus areas include:
- Agroforestry and Sustainable Land Use – Enhancing farm productivity and climate resilience by integrating trees, crops, and livestock.
- Forest Landscape Restoration – Restoring degraded lands and combating deforestation through nature-based solutions.
- Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation – Researching and implementing strategies that help communities adapt to climate change while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- Livelihood and Community Development – Supporting smallholder farmers, ethnic minorities, and marginalized communities to benefit from sustainable forestry and agroforestry initiatives.
Through its work in Vietnam, CIFOR-ICRAF contributes to national environmental sustainability goals while improving rural livelihoods, ensuring that scientific research leads to practical, on-the-ground solutions for both people and nature.
