ALiSEA Governance
Changes to ALiSEA’s governance were voted in at the November 2024 Regional General Assembly. Elections for the new positions are underway and have not yet been finalized, which is why we have not updated this page. When the new positions are filled, we’ll let you know on our website and social media.
We are an informal network, that works at a regional level on a large geographical area (sub-region of the Greater Mekong), as well as at a national level in 5 countries: Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand. Our approach is to test innovative mechanisms, adjust and improve governance arrangement through members’ suggestions.
National level
At national level in Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, we are organized around Boards of Members (BM), which include the National Secretariat. Its role is to co-develop the national strategy and action plan, facilitate and implement activities, promote the network, and work with the members. The BMs are composed of 4 to 5 members organizations, and each member had a specific role, with some variations from one country to another.
There is also a National General Assembly in each country, where all the country members discuss the achievement of the past year, co-develop their national action plan for the new year, and vote on the important decision, like the board of members.
Because of the difficulties encountered in Myanmar, which have led ALiSEA to reduce its actions there, there is only one general coordinator for the country.
Although we work with members in Thailand, we do not have a team on site.
Regional level
At regional level, we have a team composed of 3 GRET members. It manages the donors, reporting, budget and partnerships: the regional and national General Assembly; the development of the Knowledge Hub strategy; the guidelines and implementation of the Small Grant Facility; and communication.
Bi-annually, there is a Regional General Assembly, which brings together all the members of the ALiSEA network to discuss the year’s achievements, debate and validate the strategic action plan, and address ALiSEA governance.
