Samatoa Lotus Textiles has supported the creation of the first eco textile mill in Cambodia to create a unique collection of natural fibers from the spinning and weaving stages. The fabrics created are innovative, ecological, and spun by hands following the Cambodian traditional methods.

Tested by the French Institute of Textile and Apparel in 2016, they discovered that the lotus fiber is the first natural microfiber known worldwide offering to the lotus fabric exceptional properties. Better than a synthetic microfiber, lotus is very absorbent, providing exceptional comfort.

Quality is Samatoa’s first guarantee. Rewarder with 4 awards each from the UNESCO in 2012, the French Government in 2015, the Institute of Engineering and Technology in 2016 and the Acquisition International in 2017, every product is produced with precision and professionalism in a matter of perfection.

Sacred symbol in South Asia, Lotus clothes were only worn by the highest chiefs of the Monks. The meditation instructs practitioners to imagine themselves as a tiny seed that is deeply buried in the mud. While the mud is dirty and uncomfortable, the seed blossoms into light. Once the seed completes the journey, it blossoms into the next stage of life. The lotus symbolizes growth, inner-determination, spirituality and wisdom. The symbolic strength of the Lotus Sutra (Buddhist teaching) is Samatoa’s guideline. They follow the same positive and humanist dynamic to develop their economic, social and environment project, allowing vulnerable women from Cambodian villages to become autonomous, to live and to support their family decently.

During 10 years, Samatoa established the foundations of a solid fabric composed of the best experts in bio textiles and ethical fashion. In 2016, we created a pool of investors and a new company, Samatoa Lotus Textiles, focusing in vegetal fiber manufacturing. The basis of Samatoa’s concept relies on the belief that a sustainable economic development is intrinsically linked to social equity and environmental protection. No source of polluting energy, no chemical or toxic substitute is used in the manufacturing process of lotus fabrics. Only non-carcinogenic dyes are used. They contain no heavy metals and offer the best resistance thus complying with environmental criteria and exports standards. They are responsible from yarn to finished product, with no intermediaries or outside providers. This is how they ensure the quality of each of their products. The best socially responsible manufacturing techniques allow Samatoa’s amazing action for women’s empowerment in Cambodia.

Our aim is to duplicate the Siem Ream workshop pilot project and increase the production capacity. It will provide over 500 women with long-lasting employment and ensure that these local handicrafts remain in the country. From mid-range to luxury, Samatoa affects professionals in textile, fashion, and individuals through an innovative model with high added value.
