Social Environmental Education And Development (SEED)
Social Environmental Education and Development (SEED) is a non-profit and social student agency affiliated with the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the National University of Laos (NUoL). SEED is a volunteer-based organization comprising students dedicated to environmental protection and raising awareness about sustainability among students and the broader community.
Vision & Mission
SEED envisions a society where environmental consciousness and sustainable practices are widely adopted. Its mission is to promote environmental awareness, engage students and young people in conservation activities, and encourage responsible behavior toward nature.
Objectives
- To raise awareness among students on environmental protection and conservation.
- To foster a sense of responsibility, leadership, and discipline among students and youth.
- To enhance the capacity of students by providing knowledge, skills, and practical training in environmental sustainability.
Key Activities
SEED is actively involved in environmental education and awareness campaigns across Laos, focusing on primary and secondary schools, teachers, and the general public. Their initiatives aim to address pressing environmental challenges, such as natural resource conservation, sustainable resource management, and wildlife protection.
Major activities include:
- Climate change workshops in schools.
- Awareness campaigns on waste management (during major festivals like Laos New Year, Boat Racing Festival, and That Luang Festival).
- World Environment Day celebrations.
- Green school initiatives promoting eco-friendly practices in public schools.
- Biodiversity and wildlife conservation activities in local communities.
Educational Approach
SEED employs interactive learning methods such as:
- Engaging presentations.
- Discussions and idea exchanges.
- Educational games that make conservation and sustainable resource use easy to understand.
The organization also promotes the 4R’s waste management concept (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and provides visual educational materials on wildlife conservation.
Leadership & Governance
SEED is guided by an experienced leadership team composed of professionals and academics in environmental sciences:
- Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaisone Phengsopha – Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
- Mr. Sengvilayvanh Singthavikhoune – Deputy Chairman of Advisory, Head of Environmental Economics & Ecosystem Value Assessment.
- Mr. Konelasy Vilayphon – Vice-President, SEED.
- Mrs. Soulichan Lamxay – Chairman of Advisory, Deputy Director of Scientific Research & Academic Services.
- Ms. Thouna Phiwmouyly – Executive Board Member, SEED.
- Mr. Salermxay Sivongsa – President, SEED.
SEED also has an active team of executives and volunteers working towards its mission.
