STAR Kampuchea (SK)
STAR Kampuchea (SK) is a Cambodian non-profit and non-partisan organization. It was established and officially recognized by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) on August 1, 1997. SK envisions that Cambodian people live in real democracy, equal development, peace, and dignity. Under this vision, SK’s mission is to educate people about human rights, democratic governance, sustainable natural resource management, environment, climate change and to promote sustainable livelihoods for the local communities.
SK has 3 main programs:
1) Human Rights and Good Governance (HRGG),
2) Natural Resource and Climate Change (NRCC), and
3) Volunteer Action for Cambodia (VAC).
Through capacity building and legal services, SK has become a unique NGO, which is able to empower the target communities to be dynamic and synergic to claim their equal rights to sustainable management of natural resources. SK has received and used to receive funds from ANGOC, ANSA-EAP, ARC, BfdW/EED, British Embassy, CEPF/IUCN, CIDA, CIVICUS, CPDD, CPDD, Czech Embassy, DCA, DPA, EWM-I, FHI 360, Forum Syd, HEKS/EPER, ILC, Netherlands Embassy, NPA, Oxfam GB, Oxfam HK, Oxfam Novib, PACT, RDE, SEACA, TAF, UNDP, WB, World Vision International-Cambodia, and ZFD. SK is governed by the Board of Directors (BoD) according to its bylaws. The BoD consists of successful and influential individuals who have high commitments and passion in promoting democracy, human rights, good governance, sustainable natural resource management, the environment, and the fight against climate change. SK is managed day-to-day by the Executive Committee (Excom), under the leadership of the Executive Director (ED). SK has strong teamwork and staff who are highly committed to performing their work. This group is a key actor who brings the organization toward the achievements of organizational vision, mission, and goal.
