Fruit And Vegetable Research Institute (FAVRI)

The Fruit and Vegetable Research Institute is one of 19 member institutions directly under Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Science (VAAS). FAVRI is specialized in research on fruits, vegetables, flowers and ornamentals for production in Northern and Middle central
provinces in Vietnam. The institute’s headquarter is located in Trau Quy, Gia Lam, Hanoi. Tasks of FAVRI include

1. Establish and implement programs, projects and scientific plans and transfer technology on vegetable, fruits and flowers for the development of the sector submitting to the responsible authorities to approve;
2. Breed and develop new cultivars of vegetables, fruits and flowers of high quality and economic value and suitable to the natural conditions of different ecologies;
3. Develop protocols of intensive cultivation, pest management, harvest and postharvest management on fruit, vegetables and flowers;
4. Test quality of vegetables, fruits and flowers;
5. Conduct research on economy and markets of vegetables, fruits and flowers; Transfer technology on vegetables, fruits and flowers.

Results of the research have been widely transferred and applied into production, contributing to the development of the agriculture industry in general and of the horticultural sector in particular increasing the income of farmers in the North and Middle Central. Furthermore, the Institute has cooperated closely with the provincial authorities and organizations who are concerned in its research fields, producing encouraging results.

FAVRI has a skillful, experienced and qualified research team to be responsible for research and technological transfer of :

1. New cultivars, cultivation techniques as well as supporting farmers in accessing new technologies in fruit, vegetable and flower production;
2. Fruit, vegetable and flower post-harvest technology;
3. Fruit, vegetable and flower market development in both traditional and modern markets (shop systems, supermarkets and e-commerce).

The Institute has established a solid relationship with units, organizations in the world, such as: FAO, CIRAD, ACIAR, AVRDC, CIAT, BI, Korean RDA, CARD, TFNet, ISHS, WorldVeg, World Vision…
