Scaling Up Agroecology and Carbon Finance in Cambodia

Scaling Up Agroecology and Carbon Finance in Cambodia

From September 1st to 4th, 2025, ALiSEA Cambodia facilitated 11 participants (female: 5) from 8 member organizations to the Training of Trainer (TOT) on Agroecology and Carbon Financing held in Battambang province. This impactful event was organized by the Department of Land Resource Management of the General Directorate of Agriculture (DALRM/GDA) under the ASSET project in aiming to scale up agroecological practices across Cambodia.

Building Capacity for Agroecology Transition in Cambodia

The training was a significant milestone in enhancing the technical capacity of ALiSEA’s members in Cambodia. Through expert-led sessions and hands-on field visits, participants gained valuable insights into agroecological principles and carbon financing mechanisms—knowledge that is vital for improving implementation strategies and promoting climate-resilient agriculture.

Getting a Fresh Sight with Agroecology Practices

The field visits showcased practical applications of agroecological techniques:

  • Cover-crop system on Sunhemp Integration in rice and corn production systems to improve soil health and reduce input costs.
  • Growing the diverse legume cultivation Including mung bean and other nitrogen-fixing crops that enhance biodiversity and soil fertility.
  • Crop production systems: rice-corn rotation and inter-row cropping (peanuts and cassava)
  • Rice seed multiplication in Battambang province
  • Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) in Kanghot irrigated perimeter, Battambang
  • The sharing experiences in practice sustainable rice production (SRP)

Toward Agroecological Transition in Cambodia

By equipping practitioners with the tools and knowledge to implement agroecological practices, the project leads to deeper adoption and long-term behavioral change, fostering farmer-led innovation and participatory learning.
