ALiSEA is organizing a technical learning exchange visit on seed saving and storage at Taung Chun Myay Farm, Loilem Township, Southern Shan State, bringing together ALiSEA–Myanmar members, partners, technical experts, and local farmers. The visit will combine field observations, group discussions, and hands-on exercises to explore farmers’ seed collection, storage, and conservation practices, with a strong focus on local heirloom seeds, food sovereignty, and climate resilience. The exchange also aims to strengthen networking and experience sharing among members and farming communities to support agroecological practices and indigenous knowledge systems.

Objectives

The activity aims to enhance knowledge on seed saving and storage and to promote local heirloom seed conservation practices that strengthen food sovereignty and climate resilience among ALiSEA members, technical experts, and local farmers.

Specific outcomes include:

  • Learning and observing farmers’ seed collection, saving, production, storage, and conservation practices, along with gaining theoretical knowledge on factors that cause seed quality deterioration and the basic principles of seed storage.
  • Conducting a practical exercise on identifying characteristics of high-quality seeds and methods to maintain the quality of local seeds, including seed selection techniques.
  • Strengthening networking and experience sharing between ALiSEA–Myanmar members, their partners, and farmers in Loilem Township, Southern Shan State, to enhance collaboration and contribution among members.
