Online Thematic Workshop on “How ALiSEA Members Contributing to Knowledge Management, Cambodia”

Prepared by Mr. HOU Sorith & Ms. Meas Dany – ECOLAND

On August 27, 2025, ALiSEA Cambodia hosted a dynamic online thematic workshop titled “How ALiSEA Members Contribute to Knowledge Management, Cambodia” via Online Zoom Meeting. The event brought together a diverse group of 35 participants (Female: 13), including ALiSEA members, non-members, researchers, students, and development partners, all committed to strengthening agroecological knowledge sharing in the region.

The workshop aimed to deepen understanding and collaboration around ALiSEA’s Knowledge Hub (KH), with three key objectives:

  1. To describe/learn types of knowledge products in ALiSEA
  2. To introduce the process of knowledge product collection for the Knowledge Hub (KH)
  3. To collect the knowledge products from ALiSEA members for the knowledge product (KH).

This thematic workshop aimed to share insights into various types of knowledge products developed by ALiSEA members, research findings from the ALiSEA small grants, data collection methods for producing technical knowledge products, the benefits of the Knowledge Hub website, and the collective knowledge products to be stored in the ALiSEA Knowledge Hub.

The discussions covered several key topics, including:

  • Experience sharing on how to produce knowledge products by small-grant award member Technical brief of training manual: Organic Sesame Production presented by Mr. Meang Savoeurn, Agronomy coordinator, Agronomes et Veterinaries Sans Frontieres (AVSF). He shared experiences on collecting data for writing a knowledge product on sesame, including plant care, pest management, and storage of the harvested products. [View the presentation]
  • Explain on process of knowledge product collection delivered by Mr. Hou Sorith, Projects Manager, ECOLAND. He shared insights on ALiSEA Knowledge Hub management and introduced the procedures for collecting knowledge products from ALiSEA members for the Knowledge Hub. He also explained the platform used for sharing and collecting knowledge products via KoboToolbox, which was developed by ALiSEA’s knowledge management team. [View the presentation]
  • Knowledge Hub website introduction shared by Mr. Pat Sovann, National ALiSEA Coordinator for ASSET Project. He shared on advantages of the knowledge product hub to ALiSEA members which will serve as a valuable resource for further research and as an evidence base for agroecology studies. [View the presentation]
  • Introduction/Samples of Knowledge Product Collection from ALiSEA Member presented by Ms. Meas Dany, Projects Coordinator, ECOLAND. She shared examples to illustrate the types of knowledge products available and their relevance for supporting agroecology initiatives. [View the presentation]

The discussion focused on the steps for collecting knowledge products, particularly through KoboToolbox, including guidance on file size, submission dates, and the number of files to be submitted. ALiSEA also informed participants about the total quantity of knowledge products needed from both members and non-members to strengthen the Knowledge Hub. Additionally, the discussion highlighted the opportunities created by the Knowledge Hub for sharing resources and improving access to evidence, as well as the broader importance of collective knowledge management in advancing agroecology in Cambodia.

The rationale of the knowledge product collection from each member was presented and discussed with the participants. The form designed in KoboToolbox was explained in detail (https://ee-eu.kobotoolbox.org/x/vPRE5xxo). To prepare for the launch of the Knowledge Hub in November 2025, the deadline for submitting knowledge products was set for 15 September 2025.

In summary, the webinar encouraged ALiSEA members to share their knowledge products to the ALiSEA Knowledge Hub website in both English and Khmer. These resources are stored to support researchers, members, non-members, the public sector, and universities in accessing evidence on agroecology practices for their research and studies. This initiative will contribute to the improvement of agroecology practices across Southeast Asia.

Knowledge products play a vital role in improving agroecology practices in Cambodia by providing evidence-based insights, sharing innovative approaches, and connecting farmers, researchers, and stakeholders to strengthen sustainable and productive agricultural systems —Ms. Meas Dany, Projects Coordinator, ECOLAND
